Getting Started

From first enquiry to your first quote — everything you need to know to get your project underway.

  • You can request a quote by visiting our Request a Quote page, or by emailing us directly at contact@precisionet.com. Simply provide us with the details of your project and our team will review your requirements and respond with a comprehensive quote. Whether you have a fully documented design ready for production or you’re still in the early stages of product development, we’re happy to have a conversation about how we can help. We aim to respond to all enquiries within 24 hours.
  • To provide an accurate quote, we typically need the following documentation: Gerber files or PCB design files for bare board fabrication, a bill of materials (BOM) preferably in Excel or CSV format, assembly drawings showing component placement and orientation, and any specific test or inspection requirements. For cable assemblies or box build projects, wiring diagrams and mechanical drawings are also helpful. If you’re at an early stage and don’t have all of this ready, that’s completely fine — send us what you have and our team will guide you through the rest.
  • We aim to respond to all customer enquiries within 24 hours. For straightforward PCB or PCB assembly projects where full documentation has been provided, we can often return a detailed quote within a few business days. More complex projects — such as full turnkey box builds or those requiring extensive component sourcing — may take a little longer as we work to provide the most accurate pricing and lead time estimates. We’ll always keep you informed of progress and let you know if we need any additional information.
  • While we are a contract electronics manufacturer rather than a design house, we collaborate closely with a number of established electronic design houses and engineering consultancies. We can connect you with a trusted design partner who can take your concept through schematic design, PCB layout, and prototyping. Once your design is ready, we can step in to provide Design for Manufacturability (DFM) feedback, rapid prototyping, and production. Getting us involved early — even before the design is finalised — often leads to better outcomes in terms of cost, quality, and time to market.
  • Yes, we regularly work alongside design houses, independent engineers, and product development consultancies across Australia and internationally. We’re experienced in collaborating with third-party design teams to ensure a smooth transition from design to manufacturing. Our DFM feedback during the prototyping stage helps bridge the gap between what works on paper and what works on the production floor. Many of our long-standing customer relationships started through design house referrals, and we value these partnerships as an important part of how we support new product development.
  • The journey typically follows these stages: first, you get in touch with your project requirements and we provide a quote. Once approved, we conduct a DFM review of your design files and flag any recommendations to improve manufacturability. We then move into prototyping, where we build initial units at our Melbourne facility and work with you to verify and refine the product. After prototype approval, we transition into production — either locally for smaller volumes or through our managed offshore network for higher quantities. Throughout the entire process, you have a dedicated point of contact and full visibility of progress. Our goal is to make the path from concept to finished product as straightforward as possible. • Yes. We supply custom cable assemblies, wiring looms, wiring harnesses, and power leads for a wide range of industries including medical, defence, mining, HVAC, automotive, security, and entertainment. We partner with both local and offshore manufacturers to provide high-quality cables for small batch through to large volume production. All cable assemblies comply with IPC-A-620 standards and are electrically tested before delivery. Whether you need a simple cable lead or a complex multi-connector harness, our team can manage the entire process from procurement through to testing and delivery.
  • A turnkey or box build assembly is a complete product manufacturing solution where we manage the entire build process on your behalf — from component sourcing and PCB assembly through to mechanical integration, cable routing, testing, and final packaging. Rather than coordinating multiple suppliers yourself, you work with Precision ET as a single point of contact. We handle the procurement, assembly, quality control, and logistics, delivering a fully finished product ready for deployment or distribution. This service is particularly well suited to customers developing complex electromechanical products who want to consolidate their manufacturing under one roof.
  • Yes. We offer full turnkey component sourcing as part of our manufacturing services. Our procurement team sources components from authorised distributors and established suppliers, leveraging long-standing relationships built over decades in the electronics industry. We manage the entire bill of materials (BOM), including pricing, availability checks, lead time management, and procurement. If any components face supply constraints, we’ll work with you proactively to identify suitable alternatives. You also have the option of supplying your own components (consignment) if you prefer — we can accommodate both turnkey and consigned build models.
  • Yes, DFM analysis is a standard part of our process, particularly during the prototyping and new product introduction stages. Before your product goes into production, our engineering team reviews your design files and provides practical feedback on any aspects that could affect manufacturability, quality, cost, or lead times. This might include recommendations around component placement, pad sizing, panelisation, testability, or assembly process considerations. We see DFM as a collaborative conversation rather than a gate — our goal is to help you get the best possible outcome from your design while avoiding costly issues during production.
  • We apply thorough testing and inspection at every stage of the manufacturing process. This includes automated optical inspection (AOI), visual inspection to IPC-A-610 standards, and electrical testing. For more complex assemblies, we can support functional testing based on customer-supplied test specifications and fixtures. Our cable assemblies are electrically tested to IPC-A-620 standards. We operate under an ISO 9001:2015 certified quality management system with RoHS and REACH compliant processes and ESD controls in accordance with ANSI/ESD S20.20. Every operator on our production floor is trained and certified to IPC Class 3 — the highest level of workmanship. Learn more about our quality standards →
  • Yes. We offer conformal coating services both by machine and by hand application, depending on the requirements of your product. Conformal coating is commonly used to protect PCB assemblies from moisture, dust, chemicals, and temperature extremes — making it essential for products operating in harsh or demanding environments. We also provide potting and encapsulation for assemblies that require additional environmental or mechanical protection. If you’re unsure whether your product would benefit from conformal coating or potting, our team can advise based on the intended operating conditions and industry standards.

Prototyping & New Product Development

Rapid prototyping, DFM support, and scaling from first build to full production.

  • Yes. Rapid prototyping is one of our core strengths. We offer fast-turnaround PCB assembly from our facility in Mitcham, Melbourne, enabling you to get working prototypes in hand quickly so you can test, iterate, and refine your product before committing to volume production. We specialise in prototype, high-mix, and low-volume builds, and our team takes a hands-on, collaborative approach to every project at this stage. Prototyping locally means you can visit the factory, speak directly with the people building your product, and resolve any issues in real time.
  • Assuming components are available from suppliers, we can typically deliver prototypes within 2–4 weeks depending on the complexity of your product. This timeframe covers PCB fabrication, component procurement, assembly, and inspection. Where components have extended lead times, we’ll communicate this upfront and work with you to find the best approach — whether that’s sourcing alternatives, using customer-supplied parts, or adjusting the project timeline. If you have an urgent requirement, please let our team know — we understand that speed matters during product development and we’ll always do our best to accommodate your schedule.
  • There is no fixed minimum for prototype assembly. We can build quantities as low as a single assembled PCB, which makes us well suited to early-stage product development where you may only need one or two units for testing and validation. For bare printed circuit boards, we work with a minimum of 2 panels. Our flexible approach to batch sizes means you can order exactly what you need at each stage of development without being forced into larger quantities before your design is finalised.
  • Yes, and we consider this one of the most valuable parts of our prototyping service. During the prototype stage, our team reviews your design and provides practical DFM feedback before we begin assembly. This feedback covers areas such as component placement and orientation, pad design, solder paste considerations, panelisation, and testability. The goal is to identify and address potential manufacturing issues early — when changes are simple and inexpensive — rather than discovering them during production. We find that this collaborative approach leads to smoother production runs, fewer quality issues, and a better end product.
  • Absolutely. Managing the transition from prototype to volume production is something we do regularly and it’s a process we’ve refined over many years. Once your prototype has been validated and approved, we work with you to plan the production ramp-up — including finalising the BOM, confirming component availability and lead times, locking in pricing, and establishing quality benchmarks. Depending on your volume requirements and cost targets, production can take place at our Melbourne facility or through our managed offshore manufacturing network. We remain your single point of contact throughout, ensuring continuity from your first prototype board through to ongoing production.
  • Yes, and we genuinely enjoy this part of our work. We have a strong track record of supporting startups and SMEs as they navigate the journey from initial concept through to a commercially viable electronic product. We understand that early-stage companies often need flexibility with batch sizes, responsiveness to design changes, practical manufacturing advice, and a partner who is invested in their success rather than just processing orders. Our prototyping services, DFM support, and scalable production options are all well suited to companies at this stage. Read more about how we support startups →

Production & Scaling

Volume manufacturing, flexible capacity, and local versus offshore production options.

  • Production lead times vary depending on the complexity of your product, order volume, and component availability. As a general guide, once all components are in hand, assembly and testing typically takes 2–4 weeks for local production. Component procurement can add additional time depending on the specific parts in your BOM — some components may have lead times of several weeks or longer. We work proactively to manage procurement timelines and will always communicate clearly if any factors are likely to affect your delivery schedule. For time-critical programs, we can often work with you to pre-order long-lead components and stage production accordingly.
  • We maintain flexible minimum order quantities to accommodate customers at every stage. For bare PCBs, we work with a minimum of 2 panels. For assembled boards, we can accommodate runs as small as a single unit, though production economics generally improve with larger batches. For cable assemblies, box builds, and other services, minimum quantities depend on the specific product requirements. We’re always happy to discuss your volumes and find an approach that works for your budget and timeline — just get in touch.
  • Yes. Our Melbourne facility is structured to handle prototype, low-volume, and mid-volume production with the flexibility and engineering engagement that these builds demand. For higher-volume programs, we can manage production through our established offshore manufacturing network, where our partners hold ISO 9001, ISO 13485, and IATF 16949 certifications. Regardless of volume, Precision ET remains your single point of contact and takes full responsibility for quality, delivery, and communication. This hybrid model gives our customers the best of both worlds — local responsiveness and hands-on collaboration for development work, with access to cost-effective capacity when volumes increase.
  • Yes. We offer the flexibility of both local manufacturing at our Melbourne facility and managed offshore production through our certified international partners. Local manufacturing is ideal for prototyping, new product introduction, lower-volume production, and projects where close collaboration and fast turnaround are priorities. Offshore manufacturing suits higher-volume programs where cost efficiency is important. Our Hong Kong office provides on-the-ground coordination and quality oversight for offshore production. Importantly, you always deal directly with our Australian team — you get the benefits of local communication, accountability, and the same time zone, regardless of where your product is built.
  • Quality management for offshore production follows the same rigorous approach as our local operations. Our offshore manufacturing partners are certified to ISO 9001, ISO 13485, and IATF 16949, and we conduct regular quality reviews to ensure standards are maintained. Our Hong Kong office provides direct oversight and acts as an extension of our Australian quality management system. All offshore production undergoes the same inspection and testing protocols as local builds, and full traceability is maintained throughout. We only work with established, long-standing manufacturing partners whom we’ve vetted extensively — these are relationships built over many years of collaboration.
  • Yes. Flexibility is one of the key advantages of working with Precision ET. We understand that demand can fluctuate, particularly for companies in growth phases or those managing seasonal product cycles. Our manufacturing model — combining local capability with managed offshore capacity — allows us to scale production up or down in response to your needs. We also offer stock holding services, so you can maintain buffer inventory to respond quickly to demand spikes without carrying the full logistics burden yourself. If your volumes are likely to change, we’ll work with you to plan production schedules and component procurement accordingly.

  • We take a collaborative approach to quality issues. When a non-conformance is identified — whether during production or in the field — our team investigates the root cause, implements corrective actions, and communicates openly with the customer throughout the process. Our ISO 9001:2015 quality management system includes formal non-conformance reporting, corrective and preventive action (CAPA) procedures, and continuous improvement processes. We also run weekly customer experience workshops internally, where we review customer feedback and look for opportunities to improve. Our goal is to resolve any quality concern quickly, transparently, and in a way that prevents recurrence.
  • Yes. Full traceability is a standard part of our manufacturing process. We maintain detailed records of component sourcing (including supplier, batch, and date codes), production processes, inspection results, and testing outcomes for every assembly we produce. This level of traceability is essential for customers in regulated industries such as medical devices and defence, where the ability to trace every component back to its source is a compliance requirement. Our ISO 9001:2015 certified quality management system ensures that traceability documentation is consistent, reliable, and readily available when needed.

Supply Chain & Components

Component sourcing, procurement management, and lifecycle support.

  • Yes. Component sourcing and procurement is a key part of our turnkey manufacturing service. Our procurement team manages the entire bill of materials (BOM) on your behalf — from initial pricing and availability checks through to ordering, receiving, inspection, and kitting for production. We source components from authorised distributors and established suppliers, drawing on relationships we’ve built over decades in the industry. This allows us to offer competitive pricing, reliable supply, and proactive management of any availability or lead time challenges that arise.
  • Component availability is one of the most common challenges in electronics manufacturing, and we take a proactive approach to managing it. When we identify parts with extended lead times or limited availability during the quoting stage, we’ll flag them immediately and discuss options with you. These might include pre-ordering long-lead items, identifying alternative components, or adjusting the production schedule. We monitor the supply chain continuously and maintain close communication with our distribution partners so that we can anticipate issues early and keep your project on track.
  • Yes. We accommodate both turnkey (we source everything) and consigned (you supply components) build models, as well as hybrid approaches where we source some components and you supply others. If you choose to consign components, we have a checklist that outlines the requirements for packaging, labelling, and documentation to ensure a smooth handover into production and avoid any delays or extra costs. Download our Supplying Components Checklist (PDF) →
  • Yes. We source components exclusively from authorised distributors and established, reputable suppliers. This is fundamental to maintaining the quality and reliability of the products we manufacture. Sourcing through authorised channels ensures that components are genuine, properly stored, and covered by manufacturer warranties. It also supports full traceability — an essential requirement for customers in regulated industries such as medical and defence. We do not purchase from grey market or broker sources.
  • Yes. If a component in your BOM is facing supply constraints, has an extended lead time, or is driving up costs, our team can suggest form-fit-function equivalent alternatives for your consideration. We always present alternatives to you for approval before making any substitutions — we will never change a component without your explicit agreement. In many cases, identifying a suitable alternative can improve both availability and pricing without affecting the performance or reliability of your product. This is part of the value we bring through our experience and supply chain relationships.
  • Yes. We monitor the lifecycle status of components in your BOM and will notify you proactively if any parts are flagged as end-of-life (EOL), not recommended for new designs (NRND), or facing future obsolescence. This gives you the opportunity to make a last-time buy, qualify an alternative, or plan a design revision before a component becomes unavailable. Effective lifecycle management helps protect the longevity of your product and avoids unexpected disruptions to your production schedule.

Logistics, After-Sales & Support

Shipping, stock holding, repairs, and ongoing product support.

  • Yes. Our relationship with customers extends well beyond delivery. We offer comprehensive after-sales support, including warranty repairs, rework, and refurbishment of field returns. If a product comes back from the field with a fault, our team will diagnose the issue, carry out the necessary repair or rework, and return it to you with full documentation. We can also support ongoing product maintenance and provide replacement parts from held stock. Our goal is to be a long-term partner — not just a one-off supplier.
  • Yes. We offer stock holding services at our Melbourne facility for both finished products and spare parts. This allows you to maintain ready-to-ship inventory without managing your own warehousing. Stock holding is particularly useful for customers who need to fulfil orders quickly, maintain buffer stock for seasonal demand, or keep replacement parts on hand for field service and repairs. We’ll work with you to agree on stock levels, replenishment triggers, and storage arrangements that suit your business needs.
  • Yes. We can ship finished products directly to your end customers on your behalf, using your branding and packaging specifications. This drop shipping capability is valuable for customers who want to streamline their supply chain and reduce handling steps between manufacturing and delivery. Whether you need products shipped to a single distribution centre or to multiple end users across different locations, we can manage the logistics for you. Just let us know your requirements and we’ll set up a process that works for your business.
  • Payment terms are discussed and agreed on a customer-by-customer basis as part of our commercial arrangements. We’re committed to offering terms that are fair and workable for both parties. For specific details about payment terms, please contact our sales team or refer to our Terms and Conditions of Trade (PDF) →
  • When a product is returned from the field, our team carries out a thorough investigation to identify the root cause of the failure. We document our findings and provide you with a clear report, along with recommendations for corrective action if applicable. Repairs and rework are carried out in our Melbourne facility under the same quality controls as original production. We understand that field failures are time-sensitive, so we prioritise these cases to minimise downtime for you and your customers. If patterns emerge across multiple returns, we’ll work with you proactively to address the underlying issue.
