PCB Assembly Australia | Specialist PCBA Services Melbourne

A manufacturing machine placing component on a pcb

What is PCB Assembly?

PCB assembly (PCBA) is the process of soldering electronic components—such as resistors, integrated circuits, and capacitors—onto a fabricated printed circuit board. Unlike PCB manufacturing, which focuses on the board itself, PCB assembly involves populating the board to create a fully functional electronic circuit ready for use.

We deliver high-reliability Printed Circuit Board Assembly (PCBA) for customers who need more than just an assembly-only provider.

We specialise in prototype, high-mix, and low-to-medium volume PCBA locally and high-volume overseas, working closely with customers to ensure designs are manufacturable, repeatable, and aligned to real-world production requirements. From early engineering and DFM through to sustained production, our teams take a hands-on, collaborative approach to every build.

By combining disciplined quality systems, flexible assembly capability, and strong engineering engagement, Precision helps customers reduce risk, avoid rework, and bring products to market with confidence.

Types of PCB Assembly (SMT/THT)

At Precision, we provide high-precision assembly utilizing the two primary industry methods, often combining both for complex, “mixed-technology” projects:

Surface Mount Technology (SMT): This modern assembly method involves mounting components directly onto the surface of the PCB. SMT is ideal for high-density designs, smaller footprints, and automated high-speed production.

Through-Hole Technology (THT): THT involves inserting component leads into drilled holes on the PCB and soldering them on the opposite side. This provides a stronger mechanical bond, making it the preferred choice for components subject to high stress, heat, or power requirements.

Mixed-Technology Assembly: Most advanced electronics require a hybrid approach, utilizing SMT for miniaturization and THT for robust connectors or power components on the same board.

  • A true partnership mindset – we don’t just build to print; we collaborate to improve manufacturability and outcomes.

Flexibility Across All Volumes

We support one-off prototypes, engineering builds, low and mid-volume requirements and scalable high-volume production. Our processes adapt to the project without compromising quality, lead time or communication.

Engineering Support

Our Design for Manufacturability (DFM) approach is manufacturing-focused, ensuring designs can be built efficiently and repeatedly.

We commonly help customers prevent:

  • BOM, Gerber, and placement data mismatches

  • Incorrect footprints, rotations, or polarity

  • Stencil-related solder defects

  • Clearance and access issues affecting assembly quality

Where required, we collaborate with customers and trusted third-party partners to support test strategy development and NPI activities.

Reliable Quality and On-Time Delivery

Quality and delivery performance are central to how Precision operates. Our PCBA builds are governed by ISO-aligned processes, IPC-trained personnel, and controlled documentation to ensure assemblies are produced consistently and to specification. Delivery commitments are set realistically and managed through disciplined planning, clear communication, and proactive issue resolution. By combining strong process control with close coordination across engineering, production, and supply chain, Precision provides customers with reliable build quality and dependable delivery performance, even in high-mix and fast-changing environments.

Certified Supply Chain

Precision takes a disciplined and risk-aware approach to supply chain management, recognising its critical impact on quality, cost, and delivery. We source components through approved and authorised suppliers, maintain full traceability, and work closely with customers to manage availability, alternates, and lead-time risk. Our local assembly capability is supported by a global supply-chain network, enabling us to balance responsiveness with scalability. Where higher volumes are required, Precision can manage offshore production programs on the customer’s behalf, retaining full responsibility for supplier coordination, quality oversight, and delivery performance — always with customer approval.
